Decree-Law no. 84/2021, of October 18th, was published, which regulates consumer rights in the purchase and sale of goods (movable and immovable), digital content and services, with effect from January 1st, 2022. This diploma represents an important reinforcement of consumer rights, introducing changes to the rules regarding the guarantees of goods, providing for rights for consumers regarding the provision of digital content and services, which until now did not exist. Among others, it establishes the extension of the warranty period for movable property from 2 to 3 years (in the first two years the consumer will not have to prove that the defect existed when the goods were delivered) and, for immovable property, from 5 to 10 years, when defects that affect structural construction elements are concerned.
