Ministerial Order no. 169/2024/1 of the 19th of June, in accordance with the guidelines on security standards of Regulation (EU) 1157/2019 of the 20th of June 2019, established a new model of Citizen Card in Portugal, with contactless technology simplifying the reading of information from the identification document. This new card began to be issued on 11th of June, while the previous model will remain valid until it expires.
