Given the difficulties faced by the Portuguese in the housing sector, both in terms of renting and mortgage loans, a series of measures to combat this phenomenon were approved by the Council of Ministers on February 16. Measures such as the conversion of properties used for commerce or services to residential use, the creation of a new tax regime that is more favorable to those who transfer properties used for local accommodation to the residential rental market, and the stabilization of rents in new rental contracts, among others, are all important.
