Decree-Law No. 194/2026 ensures the implementation in Portugal of Regulation (EU) 2023/2411 on the protection of geographical indications (GIs) for artisanal and industrial products. This legislation aims to extend the protection of GIs to, for example, ceramics, glassware, jewellery and basketry. The aim, therefore, is to use a harmonised procedure to protect industrial and artisanal products whose quality and/or reputation are linked to their geographical origin.
