As a measure to protect victims of domestic violence in Portugal, Law no. 3/2023 was passed. This law makes it possible for victims of domestic violence to obtain a divorce without the consent of the other spouse when the latter is a defendant or has been convicted in a domestic violence case against the spouse requesting the divorce, thus dispensing with any attempt at conciliation between the victim and the aggressor.
